14 MPs disqualified for fake degrees, PML-N tops list

     Tuesday, June 22, 2010

ISLAMABAD: As many as 14 parliamentarians belonging to different mainstream political parties have been disqualified during the current political tenure, with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz at the top.

According to data available, out of 14 parliamentarians disqualified for holding fake degrees include seven from PML-N, four from Pakistan Muslim League (Q) and three from Pakistan People's Party.

The seven disqualified Parliamentarians belong to PML-N included: Haji Mudassir Qayyum Nahra from NA-100 (Gujranawala), Haji Pervaiz from NA-55 (Rawal Pindi), and Javed Husanin Sha from NA-68 (Shiawal) while from Provincial Assembly included Rana Mubashir Iqbal from PP-160, Rizwan Gill, PP-34, Meer Badshah Khan Qaisrani PP-240, Haji Nasir Mehmood from PP-111 (Gujrat).

On the other hand four disqualified Parliamentarians belong to PML-Q, included: Nazir Jutt from NA-167 (Vehari) and Nagma Mushtaq long from PP-206 (Multan), Mian Ajmal Asif PP-63 (Faisalabad) and Muhammad Azam chailla Sial PP-82.

Similarly, three disqualified parliamentarians belong to PPP included: Jamshed Dasti from NA-178, Hayyatullah Tareen from NA-155 and Allah Wasaya Chunnu khan from PP-259.

The issue of parliamentarians holding fake degrees has become a national issue of grave importance as more and more parliamentarians are found to be in possession of bogus degrees.

According to the Election Commission spokesman Muhammad Afzal, the ECP has forwarded degrees of almost all the members of the Parliament including Senate, National Assembly and provincial Assemblies to the standing committee on education who had sent these documents for verification to higher education commission.

Abstract from The News / 18th June, 2010.

To another query of a reporter, Nawaz reiterated his demand for resignation of the parliamentarians who have been elected to the assemblies on fake degrees. He said they committed a fraud and they should be held accountable for it. He said the Election Commission took long time to get candidates’ degrees verified from the institutions concerned. But even then they reached assemblies, he regretted. He said the Election Commission of Pakistan should have checked the fake degrees before the elections. He asked the fake degree-holders to resign from the assemblies voluntarily, to save themselves from embarrassment.

The PML-N Quaid admitted that there was negligence on the part of his party also, which gave tickets to the candidates without checking their degrees. He pledged that the PML-N would not issue the party tickets to fake degree-holders in future.

Questions and suggestion for Nawaz Sharif, if not annoying.

Leader and that too of one of the major political party should not and can not issue so much conflicting and contradictory statements as flashed by The News on 18th and 22nd June, 2010 on the same subject Today the newspaper captions ‘14 MPs disqualified for fake degrees, PML-N tops list’ whereas just 4 days back on 17th Nawaz has publicly demanded that all those elected parliamentarians who have bogus educational degrees must voluntarily resign and to this extent I am with him and not against him. However, the ground reality is much too much different than what one can construe after reading his statement. Isn’t is very much insulting and humiliating to know that out of 14 bogus degrees, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz group) gets the lion share simply because his share comes to 7 in other words half of bogus degree holders declared fake so far belong to none but Nawaz Sharif?

How is it possible that Nawaz Sharif did not know about it till today? One may not know about one person, two persons, three persons or even four persons but not seven persons. This is very much impossible and I seriously doubt so but say for academic purpose, NS did not know it, and then the question is as to what leadership qualities he has when such like important news and that too of such a big lot is not told to him? Moreover what he did when his first parliamentarian was disqualified? How come NS was not alarmed once his first legislative member was being questioned? Shouldn’t he then have asked his each and every member whether in Senate, National Assembly or Provincial Assembles about their degrees, at least for face keeping if not otherwise?

What action, if at all any, has NS taken over the past 24 hours since the news is flashed? You have not only been twice Prime Minister, rather even now, you wish to be PM for third time hence it officially, politically and morally demands of you not to associate with bogus degree holders unless and until you are your own enemy. Sir! Pakistan is not short at all rather has surplus highly educated persons, both male and female who are more than just bachelor degree holders so why you go after those who are fake and rake to dent your own popularity nick named ‘heavy mandate’ and earn blot for you as against laurels.
