Nobel Prize Nominee Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan

for Forthcoming Book

Scholar and historian Nasim Yousaf (based in the USA) is compiling a book of articles on Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan, a social scientist who earned many prestigious awards and was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for his models on rural development and poverty alleviation. Volunteers, particularly those familiar with Dr. Khan’s work, are invited to submit an article highlighting Dr. Khan’s contributions in the areas of microcredit/microfinance, rural development, or poverty alleviation. Selected items will be included in the book along with the contributor’s bio. The book is planned to be published on Dr. A.H. Khan’s forthcoming death anniversary (October 09, 2012) and will be a great tribute to this legendary public figure of South Asia.

Dr. A.H. Khan is best known for founding two globally recognized projects: (1) Bangladesh (Previously Pakistan) Academy for Rural Development and the (2) Orangi Pilot Project (Karachi). These two models are being replicated in various parts of the globe and are taught in top universities around the world. The compiler, Mr. Yousaf, has presented papers at U.S. conferences and written many articles and books. He has also contributed articles to the prestigious “Harvard Asia Quarterly,” “Pakistaniaat” and the “World History Encyclopedia (USA).” His forthcoming books include “Mahatma Gandhi & My Grandfather, Allama Mashriqi” and “World Famous Personalities in Microfinance and Poverty Alleviation: Nobel Prize Nominee Dr. Akhtar Hameed Khan, Nobel Prize Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus and President Barack Obama’s Mother, Dr. S. Ann Dunham.”
