Presidential Elections
I do not know who are the advisors of the PTI or is it Imran Khan’s solo
decision to field Justice Wajih ud Din ( Retd) as their presidential
candidate, but who so ever have (has) done it certainly lack(s) political
maturity. Do they have in their wildest dreams any hope of his being
elected? The only argument they offer is that that they did not want to give a
free walk over to the ML(N) nominee. But little do they realise that by
contesting the election they are providing Mamnoon Mamon with a proper
legitimacy of claiming to have won the elections after duly contesting it
against the opposition candidate. Had the PTI boycotted the presidential
elections these would have been viewed just as a farce all over the world, but
now that the PTI is contesting them it will not only give a legit president to
the country who would dance to any tune called by the MNS but would also damage
the cause of democracy in the country by giving an entire free and unbridled
hand to MNS to do whatever he wished !!
Similarly, strange was also the ML(N) yatra to 90! Even a child in the
politics knows that the MQM cannot stay without siding with the power.
And, now that Altaf is in dire straits in London, they needed all the more the
blessings of the federal govt. They have already some share of power in Sindh
and probably now would perpetuate the continuation of their governor there
too. Had ML(N) waited a little the entire 90 would have made the
pilgrimage to Raiwind, but then how would have the ML(N) proved its poor
political acumen and not lowered its prestige in the eyes of the general
public.
God bless our leaders with some vision also.
