Pensioners Plight
It would be ungrateful on the part of the pensioners not to thank the
govt. for the 10% and 25% relief offered to them. In these hard days of high
inflation and sky rocketing prices any respite big or small is more than
welcome. However, it was pathetic to see long queues of old men and women
standing for hours in the sizzling sun without shade and water at the bank
windows waiting helplessly for their turn to draw the pension. Some of them had
come from far off places and that would have cost them quite a few precious
unaffordable rupees too. In this modern computerised age, I think, it
should not be difficult for the govt. to electronically transfer their pensions
to their nearest bank or even the Post Office that could also be computerized
to meet this essential requirement. It would bring immense relief
to the old pensioners.
