Regarding ur Q about pakistan army peacekeeping force to UN ,there are four catogaries of officers and troops involved in these missions.Two are selected in individual capacities which include MilObs[military observers] and staff officers.In majority of cases these are staff course qualified majors or Lt Cols.they are the officers with good carear profiles.
The other two are pak army batallions and pakistan FPU [FPU=formed police unit]which come as contingents.
Pak army batt:Different army units go on the missions depending on their performance in course ,disciplin , sports and the area in which they are placed e.g wana etc and in some cases if the unit is old enough and has some general on good appointment ,he can lobby for that unit.Mostly these are good units and the officers are career oriented though a unit can not leave its black sheeps behind.moreover if the strength of the unit is less than required by UN, some officers from other units may also join them.
Pak FPU:Regarding FPU ,of which i am the part,it is an amalgam of the different paramilitary forces namely punjab and sind rangers + FC baluchistan and NWFP+ coast guards+ northern area scouts.The name of the officers come from GHQ depending upon career,discipline,area in which the offr is serving etc and of course if some one has a gen at a good post.[:)].......
Regarding that alleged scam in Congo i will confirm u later as i have a friend there who might be in good position to tell me about what happened there .
