Roti, Kapra and Makan, the fictitious and deluding slogan

The following and such like incidents in the country indicates that the living standard of the people is degrading day by day. It is bad luck of the distributor that his act of charity turned into his guilt. In the previous Governments, the people were committing suicides and in the present Government, they have been compelled to stand in long queues for the reception of subsidized flour etc. and are being tortured and crushed. The question is, why and who has compelled the poor nation to stand and wait for cheap commodities? The situation is deteriorating and the Government and its officials are silent spectators. The Government is saying one thing; the Court is saying another while the traders have their versions about this situation. It seems to me that the priorities have changed. The Government is giving salaries to the employees on one hand and getting on another hand. What is the benefit of the increase of salaries when the prices of the essential commodities have been increased manifolds? These poor people behaved like hungry hounds because they were conveyed by the Government. Government is responsible. When Caliph Omar, considers himself liable for a starved dog on the bank of Euphrates , then Zardari, Gilani or any other head of State or Government is equally responsible. They can be equally charged for the murder of the citizens in such like cases and their punishment in such like cases be the amount deducted either from their salaries or taken from their pockets. Why price-hike was not controlled by the rulers? No one is enquiring in the matter that dollar is increasing day by day and rupee is degrading. Who is responsible? Law and order is deteriorating day by day. Who is responsible? The authorities of electricity in NWFP announced that there would be no load-shedding and published the news in daily Mashriq but the load-shedding is continuous. Who is responsible? Cheap bread in Punjab or elsewhere is not remedy of the poverty. Originally, General Musharraf had very positive approach about the reduction of poverty. He was of the opinion that lists of poor persons should be prepared and they should given so much amount from the Zakat fund as to enable them to start their own business or other work through which they may earn their livelihood and then their names should be struck off the lists for ever and then fresh lists be prepared of the poor. But when he went in the lap of Muslim League âQâ, then his thinking was distorted. He began to look through the eyes of the leaders of that party. Moreover, all the political parties considered him a potential threat for their future existence that is why he was defamed and blamed for the violation of Constitution. In my opinion, both the political parties and General Musharraf are passengers of the same boat when the matter of violation of the Constitution is discussed. The difference is only that General Musharraf bravely violated and openly confessed while the political leaders are violating the Constitution tacitly and do not confess. I have previously in an article discussed that when the citizens obey the law then why the State fails in feeding them properly. Why their rights are not protected. Each murder, theft and dacoity should be attributed to the local police. In district Swabi, NWFP, almost every day, the motor bikes of the people are stolen but the Police are silent. Either the police should recover their motor bikes or the Government should get the responsibility of very aggrieved person and should pay from the National Exchequer. Police is hesitating in lodging the FIRs for this reason that the matters be suppressed but those who know the procedures go to the Court and get registered the FIRs just to bring the fact of theft or dacoity on the record. I request the media to highlight the incidents like those of Karachi for making better assessment about the Government and for contradicting them with these incidents. Payment of Rs. 1000 or Rs. 2000 is not the remedy of poverty. At least o.5 million should be given to a family after ascertaining from them which kind of business they intend to start. Local Government system should be strengthened and the people at the gross root level be engaged in the reconstruction of the Country. Non-Governmental Organization, especially of local nature be strengthened and influence of politics be minimized. I once again repeat my suggestion, that if America wishes to help the people of Pakistan , it should invest its money in industrialization and should more with people instead of Government officials because the Government officials done nothing so far with the provided aid.

KARACHI: An act of charity turned into a tragedy near Karachi âs Khori Garden on Monday when a stampede caused the death of 20 women and girls who had thronged an outlet where a wholesaler was giving out food items for free. Fifteen people were injured.

Jodia Bazaar, the cityâs biggest wholesale market, saw heart-rending scenes of poor families retrieving bodies instead of sacks after organisers of the free distribution were overwhelmed by the needy multitudes.

âTokens for free ration were being given away by the distributor at the rooftop of the rice dealerâs three-storey outlet while a 10-kg sack of rice was being handed to women from a nearby ground floor warehouse,â an eyewitness said.

However, the hospitalâs medico-legal sources said that three bodies were taken away from the hospital without completion of formalities while two were taken away by relatives from the scene of the tragedy.

Most of the victims hailed from Machchar Colony, a shantytown off Mauripur Road , Baldia Town and Sohrab Goth.

The Sindh government has appointed District and Sessions Judge, South, Fahim Ahmed Siddiqui, as inquiry officer to conduct investigations.

A handout said the inquiry officer would determine the cause of incident and submit a report to the government within seven days.
