Yesterday I learnt of a TV show which was aired on ary digital TV on the 10th of January, a talk sow called "talking Divas". The topic was homosexuality. It was an extremely upsetting and disturbing show. The participants included Muslim girls and boys, Pakistanis, who openly called themselves gay/lesbians.They were fully prepared, quoting ayat numbers from Quran and misinterpreting facts. A few of their quotes (gist) were as below: * Homosexuals are wrongly perceived as being promiscuous. Most homosexuals are only looking for love and care.
* The concept of a family unit has changed. You don't need a father and a mother to raise a balanced child. Prophet Muhammad (saw) had an excellent personality without children.
* This program is breakthrough in Pakistani social history. We encourage youth, specially oppressed lesbian girls, to come out of the closet. Like a movement, we will be making support groups for gays.
* Islam is a personal religion. We should interpret it according to how we understand it.
* Islam promotes diversity. So gays and homosexuals are ok in the eyes of Allah because Islam does not mind variety and differences in people.
* Homosexuality is genetically inherited.
* Quran prevents "Faahisha" ....Lust....not homosexuality.Homosexuality is about love not lust.
* Gays should have the right to raise kids too.
* There are lots of examples in Muslim history of important homosexuals.
* Celebrities like Amin Gulgee and Ather Shehzad are openly declaring themselves as gay.
* The Quran never said anything about homosexuality. The ayats say "men" should not be with "males". Males here means male animals, so Allah is not against Adam with Adam but Adam with animal.
* The story of Loot (as) has nothing to do with homosexuality. The crime of this nation was highway robbery and rape.
* The Quran forbids satisfying desire with anyone other than wife. So it forbids adultery, not homosexuality
