Please do not forget on this (happy) day the Flood Affected millions who lost their homes and hearths, cattle and chattels and some their near and dear ones. Also think today of the hundreds of thousands other less fortunate, who cannot even buy medicine for their terminally sick young ones while we spend thousands on the toys alone for our children. The mother holding the dying child in her lap

The havoc wreaked by the floods has also obliterated most of the natural as well as manmade features and land markings demarcating the land holdings of the individuals in the rural areas. During the resettlement phase of the flood affectees and reconstruction of their houses plus demarcating their agricultural fields there is bound to be lots of confusion which could even lead to ugly law and

A Pakistan Army delegation called off its trip to CENTCOM U.S.A, when the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Dulles airport Washington reportedly mistreated them humiliatingly. The high ranking delegation was there at the invitation of the U.S. government, but the TSA paying no heed to their status or the official invitation treated them like a bunch of terrorists during their interrogat

A govt. TV ad showed President Zardari assuring the flood victims, “I promise you nothing else will be done until first you are provided with the homes”. In the same ad PM told them, “You are not alone. We will not leave you alone. We are with you”. Well done Messrs President and PM. I sincerely hope you will keep your words, though the President’s word seems difficult to keep.

The bomb shell dropped by Altaf Bhai inviting patriotic generals to weed out the feudal and corrupt politicians has let out a furore and ignited a raging debate both in the print as well as electronic media. The general conduct of the politicians in and out of the power being discussed on the TV talk shows is anything but enviable and the people are openly talking of the army to step in, nip the e

In a live tv show the anchor person and the participants were at their wits’ end as to how could the Interior Minister pronounce in a show of vengeance that the perpetrators of the gruesome crime would be served with the severest punishment and that too at the same spot where they had brutally lynched the two brothers. While seriously and earnestly expecting the law to take its course, we all know

Why do our leaders buy properties, palaces and penthouses abroad especially in and around London’s posh areas at enormous prices? They could always rent something similar for their sojourn when needed at less than the monthly interest that would accrue to them by keeping such money instead in a bank. Apart from the initial purchase cost the regular maintenance and running expenses of such palatial

Mr. Zahid Maqbool president Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry has appealed to the intending Umera performers to instead donate the money to the flood relief funds. I endorse his views strongly. The funds thus diverted would help a great deal in alleviating the sufferings of the millions of flood victims which is the direst need of the hour in Pakistan.

A private TV channel showing the havocs played by the floods in Sindh also showed a commendable brave act worth emulating by all. The defiant and determined villagers of a small area built a long mud embankment (Bandh) on their own on self help basis that stopped the flood waters in its tracks at their gates and thus saved them precious lives, cattle and properties. However, an ex-minister and a

Ruet-e-Hilal Committee (RHC) to meet on Wednesday” reads a headline in a national daily. I am not very sure if in view of the expected cloudy horizons the committee would be able to come to an all acceptable conclusion. In any case the RHC depends upon the evidence of eye witnesses from all parts of the country, some of whom are known to ‘see’ the imaginary crescent under assumed conditions of mi
