Mr. Omar Malik (NewsPost 16 September 2011) asks the Prime Minister,” How can you expect others to donate when they see such abhorrent display of extravagance by our Senators and MNAs?” Little did he know that the PM is leading an 80 strong entourage of politicians, journalists and others to the UN this year just to address the General Assembly for about half an hour and meet only one head of the Click here to read Full Article

Zardari Angiography: by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

It was comforting to know that the doctors in the UK have given a clean bill of health and heart to President AAZ after his undergoing an angiography there. It calls for sacrificing as many black goats by him and the Jialas as they can afford. The nation didn’t know about the suspected ailment of his heart which made him dart to London, as his voyage with entourage was being viewed as yet another Click here to read Full Article
Swearing in AGP by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

At times one has to perform even the unpleasant task in the call of duty. So had the Honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan Mr. Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to swallow his pride the other day when he was made to administer the oath of office of the Auditor General of Pakistan to Mr. Akhter Buland Rana , probably against his best judgement and wishes. Only two days before the CJP had written Click here to read Full Article

Karachi Under Army by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

A lot is being said and written for and against calling the army for restoring law and order in Karachi. I am for it. To my mind de-weaponisation of Karachi is the only answer to stop this wanton killing. No weapons no killing. There is such a huge number of weapons there that it will not be an easy task to get them all back. I would, therefore, suggest the following sequence of action for the a Click here to read Full Article

Karachi Carnage by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

Not a day passes when at least a dozen or more of innocent lives are not lost in Karachi. Today, by the time of writing this letter, the score was 32 . Thirty Two families deprived of the bread earners and destroyed in just one day !! Could there be anything more catastrophic than it, just ask the widows and the children of the affected families? What is more alarming is that such wanton killin Click here to read Full Article
Independence Day: by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

While 14 August is just around the corner, kindly allow me to share a thought with your readers. Should we celebrate 14 August as our Independence Day or the Birthday of Pakistan? Pakistan did not exist before August 14, 1947. As such it was never a country ruled by the British and consequently liberated or granted independence. It was born a free country from its very inception. It was India Click here to read Full Article

Political Leaders by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

Mr. Anjum Aqeel MNA, ML(N) was shown on a TV channel being taken to Adiala Jail under the custody of police. What really surprised me was that he was not only smiling and waiving to the crowd, as if he had committed an act of great bravery and political importance, but also looked totally oblivious of the severity of the crime he had committed. Any body else in his place would have worn a face Click here to read Full Article
Currency Bills by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

There was a news report that the State Bank will print no more five rupee notes being not viable. Strange! The type of paper and ink used in printing the current currency bills is of such a low quality that the printing of a note even for One Paisa should pose no problem to the State Bank. Every time I get some notes back from a gas station or even a bank they look so badly mauled up and faded i Click here to read Full Article

Shuja to Washington by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

It is not known whether Gen Shuja – DG ISI is visiting Washington on the behest of the GOP or has been ‘summoned’ there by the CIA and US administration. Whatever the case, hope he does not ask for the resumption of the stopped military aid. Neither does he yield to any threats as gone are the days of reducing Pakistan to stone age. Anyone even thinking of any action against Pakistan in ANY Click here to read Full Article
Gay Lesbian Ceremony by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

USembassy Islamabad reportedly held a “Gay, Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Pride Celebration” ceremony on June 26th 2011 to show Washington’s support and solidarity towards the GLBTs of Pakistan. Could there be anything more stupid than this for the USA to do in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, where such homosexuality is not only looked down upon with utmost scorn and contempt but also Click here to read Full Article
