Memogate by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

The commission on Memogate wants Mansoor Ijaz’s presence before it while a few others are interested in his not being there. All sorts of delaying tactics and impediments are being created for him not to travel to Pakistan such as issuance of visa, not guaranteeing his safety and security while in Pakistan and not granting him immunity from being charged for some other offence etc.. May I, therefo Click here to read Full Article

The Vice President by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)
Posted By: Riaz On: 30/Dec/2011 Views:1598 Replies:0
In reply to a TV reporter’s question as to who was the President whose Vice he was, Dr. Babar Awan replied that there was only one President in the country. An obvious hint to President Zardari. Does it mean that Babar Awan has been appointed as the Vice President of the country? If yes, under what constitution? And if not, then what is the answer to the TV reporter’s question? Imran and Musharraf by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

Imran and Musharraf are both promising to ameliorate the lot of the common man if returned to power. Both seem to have honest intentions in this regard. Both also seem to have some following though Imran’s tsunami is gaining momentum day by day. This trend must be giving many a sleepless night to the major political parties’ leaders who would be devising all kinds of strategies – fair and foul - t Click here to read Full Article

Parliament and the Army by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

PM Gilani very rightly said, "Nobody is above the law and all the institutions are subservient to the parliament." He was hinting at the army for taking up a position on Memogate different to that of the government. Generals Kiyani and Pasha say that memo is a fact and its authorship should be probed into. Whereas the ruling elite dubs it to be a non-issue and that the government had nothing to Click here to read Full Article

Would some real insider please tell the nation as to what is exactly wrong with our President? The PM, the Dr. Rehman Malik, the Dr. Babar Awan, the Dr. Firdaus Ashiq Awan, the Madam Sharmila Farouqi, the Spokesman Farahat Ullah Khan Babar, the Governor Khosla, the ex-Governor Qaira etal all have different stories to tell and different ailments to attribute to the ailing president. Fall of Dacca by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

December 16 comes every year to haunt the nation, particularly those few remaining who were witness to the debacle. I had the misfortune to be one. On this day the Quaid’s Pakistan, which was considered an epitome of ‘Divided we Stand’, was actually divided by breaking loose all bonds of unity between the two wings. That day the largest Muslim army suffered the ignominious humiliation of the Click here to read Full Article
Politics of the Grave by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)
Posted By: Riaz On: 12/Dec/2011 Views:2148 Replies:0
Mian Nawaz Sharif has found a sister in late Benazir Bhutto and vowed to unearth her murderers and hang them if returned to power. A feat which the PPP could not perform in its near 4 year rule by now. However, the PPP Jialas in and out of the government were not far behind in terming the expression a wacky verbosity amounting to exploiting the grave of the departed soul. One wonders how would Click here to read Full Article

Picture Culture by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

A picture on page-5 of “The News” 10 December shows the Saudi Ambassador Abdulaziz bin Ibrahim Al-Ghadeer calling on Senator Muhammad Ali Durrani. Two things caught my immediate attention. First, the ambassador looked real smart attired in a designer’s western suit complete with what must have been a pure silk stripped necktie with a matching kerchief. Second, the presence of a framed picture o Click here to read Full Article
ZAB & IK by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

Comparing the recent sudden rise in Imran Khan’s popularity to that of ZAB’s similar performance four decades ago, a lot looks common between the two, only ZAB was more theatrical. Both are (were) promising more than they could deliver. Imran needs to be more watchful as he might lose the popular support - particularly of the younger lot - if the old heavy weight turn coats - the very embodiment Click here to read Full Article
