Turkey-Israel Collision over Holocaust in Palestine

Dr. Abdul Ruff Colachal

                                            I

Nuclear Israel, true to its Zionist credentials and fascist policies, has always opposed an independent Palestine state bluffing that would be a threat to its own existence. How can a self-declared super of Mideast the Zionist regime on its illegal weaponry talk nonsense and the Western fools plus rogues supported that argument?

In expanding its territories illegally by constructing settlements to settle the Jews from Israel the regime obtained advance support form the western roguish powers. It is an international shame, by denying the Palestinians their sovereignty, the western roguish media and their masters could call the defenseless Palestinians struggling for independence from fascist Israel as “militants” and “terrorists”.

Universal support for Palestine movement has recognition of Turkey now and that is a milestone in Mideast political scenario now. Turkey is one of the few Muslim countries to have relations with Israel, but these have been under strain since the Islamist-rooted AK Party was elected to power in 2002. Relations between Israel and Turkey have cooled since Ankara criticized Israel's offensive in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip in December and January. In January, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan publicly criticized Israel over the Gaza campaign and walked out on Israeli President Shimon Peres at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland. Turkey and Israel have previously enjoyed close military cooperation and conduct joint naval exercises.

Israel misused the Turkey's NATO-US ties to pursue its own hidden agendas. The two countries share intelligence and have strong trade ties, following a military cooperation agreement in 1996. In recent time, Turkey has been at odd with Zionist atrocities in Palestine and critical of its double-speaks on Palestine state. The regular exercise by USA and its NATO partners to improve international aerial cooperation was to involve several NATO air forces. Turkey has postponed a joint air force drill after opposing Israel's participation. The Israeli army is annoyed. Following the Zionist holocaust in Dec-Jan, killing innocent Palestinians, including children and women and old people, Turkey cooled the ties with its NATO ally Israel. But Israel's exclusion led to the United States and Italy refusing to take part in the exercise either.

Venezuela, a non-Muslim state, alone initiated diplomatic measures of throwing the Israeli ambassador out of their country in protest against recent holocaust in Arab Palestine in Dec-Jan, while all Muslim nations preferred to be the silent spectators of Zionist genocides in Palestine as usual. When the Arab nations went on with their oil/gas business, it is Turkey which took the Israeli leaders to task when the first opportunity came. When defenseless Palestinians are being butchered by the fascist Israeli forces intermittently, even destroying their meager resources, not even one Muslim nation came to protect them from state terror attacks by Zionist regime, mainly because, devoid of real faith, they all some how are controlled by the US-led West. Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, for instance, need American permission for doing any thing in any respect. That is the level of current mindset of Islamic world, but that further enforce Zionist destructive rule in Palestine.

The recent UN panel led by eminent South African judge Richard Goldstone accused Israel of using disproportionate force and deliberately harming innocent civilians of Palestine. It urged the UN Security Council to refer allegations to the International Criminal Court (ICC) if either side failed to investigate and prosecute suspects. Israel has rejected the evidence and said it had already investigated its troops' conduct, clearing most of the subjects of wrongdoing. A Palestinian rights group says 1,417 Palestinians, including 926 civilians, were killed in the war. Israel has bluffed that only 709 Palestinians were killed by them on the occasion along with 295 civilians and 162 people whose status it was unable to clarify. They highlight ten Israeli soldiers and three civilians were killed during the conflict, which Israel launched with the declared aim of ending cross-border rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip.

The UN Security Council discussed whether to hold an emergency session on the Goldstone report, which accuses Israel of war crimes. In Geneva, Palestinian delegates as well Pakistan reportedly came under intense pressure from the US and Israel to seek the delay of the Human Rights Council debate. Some Muslim nations like Pakistan asked the report to be kept in abeyance till more information is obtained on Zionist crimes. Many Palestinians have expressed anger at PA President Mahmoud Abbas for seeming to let Israelis off the hook following Goldstone's trenchant criticism of Israel's blockade of Gaza and attacks on its citizens. Abbas himself ordered an "investigation" into how his own government made the decision, in an apparent attempt to head off a wave of criticism. Academics and rights workers held a street protest. Human Rights Council accepted the UN report by Richard Goldstone.

The PLO/Palestinian Authority has backed UN Security Council talks on alleged war crimes in Gaza, days after seeking the deferral of a UN debate on the issue. Palestinians and human rights groups say more than 1,400 people were killed in the violence between 27 Dec08 and 16 Jan09, more than half of them civilians. Israel puts the number of deaths at 1,166 - fewer than 300 of them civilians. PA politician Yasser Abed Rabbo, has said the leadership had erred by seeking the deferral of the debate at the Human Rights Council until next March. He has said last week's request to defer discussion of the report was a "mistake". "We must say a mistake has been made. This mistake should not be underestimated or concealed," he said in a radio interview. The PA decision sparked an outcry among Palestinians.

Palestinian officials voiced their "full support" for the proposed discussion - after leaders were excoriated for requesting a deferral of a UN debate. Any Libyan-proposed resolution at the UN Security Council can be vetoed by the US, which has in the past used its blocking powers dozens of times to prevent action against its closest ally in the Middle East. Libya, the only Arab state on the 15-member UNSC body, requested the UN session in a closed-door meeting. A Libyan spokesman at the UN headquarters in New York said the meeting was necessary "because of the seriousness of the report and because we think it's too long to wait until March". But nothing tangible has happened.

In June 2009, Pope Benedict XVI, immediately plunging into Middle East politics upon his arrival in Israel, called for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. That position could put him at odds with his Israeli hosts. Even this statement carries wieghtage in making Israel see reasons to mend its terror path. It is not only because Iran has the capability to destroy entire Israel in a matter of a few hours, but mainly because international community  comprehend that the continued Israeli occupation would be a liability for Israel in due course, sooner than later.

                                           III

Israeli military terror attacks have destroyed thousands of homes, hundreds of factories and 80 official buildings. Relations were strained after Erdogan criticised Israel over the Gaza campaign and walked out on Israeli President Shimon Peres at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland in January. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, previously a policy adviser to Erdogan, has spearheaded the AK Party government's push to boost ties with neighbours including south Caucasus states, Iran, Iraq and Syria. Hawkish Israeli leaders like Netanyahu have been tireless at drawing parallels between Iran and Gaza, presenting them lies as facts both to the world as dire threats to the existence of the Jewish State. Relations were strained after Erdogan criticised Israel over the Gaza campaign and walked out on Israeli President Shimon Peres at the World Economic Forum in Switzerland in January. Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu, previously a policy adviser to Erdogan, has spearheaded the AK Party government's push to boost ties with neighbors including south Caucasus states, Iran, Iraq and Syria.

The elected Islamist movement Hamas, which controls Gaza, has lashed out at the decision as "shameful and irresponsible", and posters saying "to the trash heap of history, you traitor, Mahmoud Abbas" have appeared in the Strip. And an Israeli-Arab political party has called on the PA leader to resign. Hamas, the ruling party and defenders of Palestine lands, rival to the west-sponsored Fatah-dominated PA which administers West Bank, also in order to appease the Jewish-American lobbies, indicted of indiscriminately targeting Israeli civilians, has also foolishly rejected the Goldstone report.

Hamas-Fatah unity talks, mediated by Egypt, are still prolonging. Hamas has not disclosed its position on unity talks and whether it will accept an Egyptian-mediated proposal, already endorsed by Fatah. A Hamas delegation had been due to travel to Cairo soon to give its response to an Egyptian-mediated unity proposal.Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak said on Saturday the entire Arab world was concerned about Israel's illegal settlement construction in Palestinian territories. Yasser Abed Rabbo, the secretary of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s (PLO) executive committee, said that Hamas's new conditions the Hamas conditions included guarantees on Israel lifting its siege on Gaza-showed it was not interested in achieving unity. Other conditions included the release of Hamas prisoners from Egyptian jails and a commitment that the US and other powers would recognize the outcome of elections if Hamas was to win.

PLO chief Abbas's four-year term expired in January, but his Fatah party cited provisions in the constitution that require presidential and parliamentary elections to be held together to justify his remaining in office. The Palestinian Basic Law mandates that a new general election be called at least three months before the end of the sitting parliament's mandate, a deadline which falls on October 25.Abed Rabbo insisted that Mahmoud Abbas, the Palestinian president, would call for elections, regardless of the Hamas position. This argument goes against the establishment of Palestine state and shakes all hopes for a unified Palestinian movement.

The Obama administration says continued Israeli occupation would be a liability for Israel. As if Israel is ever ready for peaceful settlement of Mideast crisis, hawkish Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who had killed Palestinians at will during his previous rein as PM,  argued that the report's conclusions would "devastate the peace process", although peace talks are currently stalled anyway over Israeli settlement-building in the occupied West Bank. The new regime in Tel-Aviv is projecting an arrogant posture before the international community and even USA. Washington knows the CIA-Mossad combine has fooled the Americans as well as the world for decades now.
