The Recitation of Poetry by Dr.Maqsood Jafri

Islamabad( pr): Eminent poet and scholar Dr.Maqsood Jafri was invited by Halqa-e-Arbab-Zouq, Islamabad to recite his fresh poetry and express his views about the role of writers. The meeting was held in the Writers'  Auditorium of Pakistan Academy of Letters, Islamabad. Ms. Mehmooda Ghazia presented her short story and Naseer Ahmed Nasir presented his poem for comments. Dr. Sarwar Kamran presided over the meeting and  said that Professor Dr.Maqsood Jafri is a prominent literary and intellectual figure and is the author of many books. Before settling down  in New York, he was professor of English literature but has saturated Urdu and Persian poetry by the color of his imaginative and intuitive powers. Ms. Abida Taqi, the Secretary of the Halqa-e-Arbab-Zouq thanked Dr.Maqsood Jafri for participating in the literary meeting. She said, Dr. Maqsood Jafri is a worldly known poet and intellectual who enjoys much influence on the younger generation in Pakistan and abroad for his moderate and democratic views and par excellent writings. he is a fiery orator, sublime poet and mature thinker.
Dr.Maqsood Jafri, in his speech thanked the organizers for inviting him in such a prestigious forum of the writers. He said the basic duty of the writers is not only to present the society as it is but to guide the masses towards better norms of life. The writers , he stressed, must unmask the atrocities and injustices and provide the solutions of the social,economic and political issues. Dr.Maqwsood Jafri recited his fresh English and Urdu poems that expressed his deep agony of being away from his mother land and suggested a society shaped on modern, moderate and democratic values.
