Can a
dog be labelled as Shaheed?
Maulana
Fazlur Rehman Sahib stated on TV on 2nd of Muharam that 'as for as
he is concerned anyone killed by the United States, even if it is a dog, is Shaheed
(martyr)' . I read about the Second Caliph announcing that he would take full
responsibility if a dog died of hunger; but I have never heard anyone in
Islamic history stating what Maulana Sahib stated. I most certainly did not
read it in Quran or Ahadiths. Linking Shahadat with the death of a dog in the
month of Muharam must have taken many Muslims by surprise. As a Muslim scholar,
is Maulana Sahib going to give reference on his amazing statement? Or should we
take this as Fatwa?
