In context with the Interior Minister’s resolve to eradicate corruption within seven days, a news item appeared a few days ago that the head of the department concerned would also be held equally responsible for the corruption indulged by any of his subordinates. Though it may sound somewhat unreasonable yet, that’s the way to deal Click here to read Full Article

Whose Army ? by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

PM Gilani’s boastful claim of the army being his own reminds me of my batman of the 50s (late) Sepoy Ahmed Hussain, a soldier who took real pride in his profession. The batmen then were there to only look after the uniform of the officer and not do the household chores like the later years. While dealing with the tailors and dhobis he often used to remind them haughtily that he was not a sepoy of Click here to read Full Article

Some of the clippings on TV showed lawyers dancing rather immaturely bhangra style on Asma’s winning the Bar’s election. Somehow the spectacle presented a sight least behoving an educated class who when pitched against the ordinary assert to be from the profession of great leaders like Quiad. Would Quaid or Iqbal hop,bop and bound in streets throwing away their stature and grace expected of it to Click here to read Full Article

Chilean Miners by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

Not many in Pakistan knew that 33 miners were trapped for more than two months deep beneath a Chilean gold and copper mine and were rescued on Wednesday 13 October 2010. A marvel of engineering and precision, first in drilling down a 2,041-foot shaft through the rock to reach the miners and then raise them up one by one in a rescue capsule called Phoenix. The need for Islam to keep pace with time, as ordained in the holy Qura’n, was never felt more than in the 21st century by when immense conceptual changes have taken place in the realm of geo-spatial metaphor and technology. Click here to read Full Article

Bob Woodward in his book “Obama’s wars” , as reported in the daily The News October 12th, 2010, says on page 26 that President Zardari wanted to clear the air about the controversy over civilian deaths from drones and told ex-CIA Director Mike Hayden that “Collateral damage worries you Americans. It does not worry me. ”Reporting this startling statement, Woodward said: “Zardari had just given the Click here to read Full Article

Talal Bugti has made a fabulous offer of Rupees One Billion and 1000 acres of agri-land to one presenting him with Musharraf’s head on a platter. Too tempting an offer for any one to resist, especially in these hard days of high inflation! My first concern is that if Musharraf doesn’t return to Pakistan how would the would be assassin avoid being apprehended by the UK police? Next, even if he co Click here to read Full Article

NATO supplies are to be resumed after suspension of more than a week. Karachi to Kandhar and Kabul are long routes to be protected effectively all along. Many Pakistanis – civil and military – have laid their lives in the process. So are Pakistani soldiers dying daily in fighting the Taliban. Drones take a similar heavy toll of innocent men, women and children in the form of collateral damage. For Click here to read Full Article
