A controversy is raging over the internet on the rather persistent asking of a TV reporter from the former COAS General Aslam Beg Mirza if he would return the ‘Democracy” medal given to the army by the late BB, as he had subsequently conspired to bring down the BB’s democratic government through Mehran Bank scandal. However, under the changed environs when the wind is blowing against the general,

A parliamentary committee has recommended imposition of 2% Radio Tax on every recharge of the mobile phones and Rs. 30,000 to 40,000 on the purchase of new cars. It will make the PBC self reliant and stand on its own feet, says the committee. What a self reliance, one wonders, if it has to come through such an enforced indirect taxation on the hapless people of this country? Who in any case in

Mian Nawaz Shareef was shown giving away a laptop to a girl student in Multan while distributing laptops among the talented students there. (Pakistan Observer Feb 8th) . I don’t know in what capacity he was doing that? Every domestic consumer of electricity is charged Rs. 35/= per month as the PTV Fees and the commercial consumers Rs. 50/= or even more. There are millions and millions of such electricity consumers throughout the country who are forced to pay the said fees which I am sure must be accruing billions to the PTV on this count only apart from the money it would be making from the commercials it airs.

The PPP regime which is in fact NOT the PPP but the PPPP (Parliamentarians) regime - remember? the PPP did not take part in the general elections of 2008 - is never tired of haranguing about the 5 year mandate given to it by the hundred seventy million people (satra karor awaam). Surprisingly, they are not the only one to make this tall claim but every other political party declares so, as if Paki

A front page head lines of The News of today reads, “Whatever the memo verdict, SHO will be assigned by me, says PM”. What a statement coming from the highest executive of the country and what has a thanedar ( SHO) got to do with the Memogate except that he may be instrumental in implementing the judicial verdict ?! Frankly, what kind of message is the PM trying to give and to who? Is it not a

The Objectives Resolution passed by the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan in March,1949, and subsequently made a substantive part of the Constitution of Pakistan on March 2, 1985 is once again in the lime light for determining the question of immunity to certain persons in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. However, while going through its contents I observed a disparity between its original version
