How I wish that after the exchange of pleasantries the moment it became clear to MNS that Obama was neither going to accommodate Pakistan’s stance on the drones nor commit to exert US influence over India to resolve the long outstanding dispute of Kashmir, he should have got up to leave, but before leaving had said. “Thank you Mr. President for your time and it was nice knowing you. By the way,

PM of Pakistan, being a man of average ability needs a very clear headed Foreign Minister and a man of sound understanding and pragmatism as his national Security Adviser. In addition, he needs a Finance Minister, who is a sound economist and well focused on the problems and issues at micro level at home. These are issues frustrating an overwhelming

According to a news report ECP has suspended the membership of 26 parliamentarians for not declaring their assets by the deadline date of September 30th, 2013. I simply fail to understand as to why did they not do so?! What were they afraid of? These 26 are probably not aware of the power that their clout enjoys. Have the assets of ANY repeat ANY parliamentarian been ever scrutinized or investiga

Some of the city streets, especially in the olden city interior are stinking with such a bad foul stench and smell that it is not possible for one to walk through them without covering one’s nose with a hanky. These streets are literally littered with offals, innards and entrails of the animals that have been sacrificed by the faithful in almost every house there. Each one of them is now blamin

A few Ahmadis at Lahore are reported to have been stopped by the Police from offering Qurbani. Nothing could be stranger than that. It would be just appropriate to find out on whose orders the Police have acted so? On their own? On asking by some religious authority? Or on orders from the government?

A news report says, “National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Chaudhry Qamar Zaman has decided to reopen and pursue major corruption cases, including those against Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, former president Asif Ali Zardari and other prominent politicians”. Some say the ‘opening’ is to ‘close’ them for ever.

It was quite amusing to see GeneralKhalid Shameem Wynne, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee himself doing the Slow March by jerking his feet forward one at a time in drill square style just as was being done by the two escorts ahead of him while he was reviewing the Guard of Honour presented to him on his retirement.

The ZilHajj moon was sighted on 6th October 2013 in Pakistan where as it appeared on the 5th in Saudi Arabia. Hajj would, therefore, be performed on the 14th October and the Eid ul Azha on the 15th at Makkah whereas in Pakistan Hajj will be observed on the 15th and Eid on the 16th consecutively. Hajj is one thing that CANNOT be performed anywhere in the world except Makkah. Is it not something

Coming events cast their shadows before” is a time old adage. From what the MNS regime has done in their first 120 days or so to alleviate the lot of the poor, one cannot pin much hopes for the betterment during the rest of their ruling period also. Everyone knows that we as a nation are cash strapped and our almost all problems are due to the non-availability of funds in the required ratios. W

It was indeed heartening to read the news (Pakistan Observer 25 Sept. 2013) that the Pakistan Ex Servicemen Association - PESA has decided to provide security on its own to the churches in Pakistan through its ex-servicemen members, who are found all over the country. The overall security measures shall be co-ordinated by Brigadier SamsonSimon Sharaf (Retd) – a founding member of PESA and a perso
