An overview about those arrested in riots in UK

Riots: Meet the accused’ is one the headings I read in The Sun on Thursday 11th August along with other newspapers about the current riots in Britain which quite naturally made me wonder more and ponder less as to what could be the rationale, if at all there is one, for the people to take law in their own hands. It is indeed very sad what started in London and spread over to other cities and none on the face of earth irrespective of nationality; color; religion; gender; age; education; profession and status, and it can go on and on but I limit to them only, can justify such an unprecedented hooliganism whatsoever.

I know for sure that at least for a few centuries, if not many long centuries, London in particular and UK in general, had been a model for most of the nations spread from east to west and south to north and, I wish I am wrong, that perhaps now has stepped a bit backward but not to worry too much. However, this is an admitted fact which none can either dispute or deny that it is always a long continual process whether we talk of rising or falling so in this case, even for academic discussion, I will say that UK people should not have behaved in such a rowdy manner and that too not for a few hours or a day but for many long hours which stretched over many days. What started in a part of London instead of subsiding thereat eventually not only engulfed other areas of the metropolitan city but, on the contra, it ignited many others likeminded people also to resort to vandalism in different cities of the country.

It is reported that over 1,500 people including men and women ranging from even less than teenager to well over forties have been arrested by police from different cities and around 300 have been produced before courts and dealt accordingly. One 11 year boy from Romford, Sussex stole waste bin valuing 50 pounds and a 11 year girl is charged in Nottingham for criminal damage means that those who are still in budding age have been found in indulging criminal activities but who and why. My only question is, sorry to be blunt, as to how and why their parents or could not spot as to what the youngsters did when they returned home? I strongly feel that both the boy and the girl being just 11 must not be living independently at their own but with their parents or elders, as the case may be, so if the elders at their own initiative had apologized with police about their loved ones, either the charges had been dropped or at least some leniency had been shown towards the youngsters but ever since it did not happen alike, the severity of law is being applied.

This is really not only very much unbelievable, shocking but mind boggling as well to know that in the list of the looters, there is one girl aged 19 who is fathered by a certified millionaire but regretfully she was also found to have looted electrical items, cigarettes and wine worth 5,500 ponds from one of the stores. In the first instance, how did it strike to her to plunder? At least I utterly fail to comprehend as to what could prompt her to go for booty when she is neither a kid; nor insane and not even poverty stricken either. She must have owned so many more things personally of much more value than what she stole but yet she did not care least and went ahead in committing the criminality. She must have lowered heads of her parents who despite being belonging to aristocratic and upper strata are now not only exposed, lowered but defamed as well for none of their fault.

Others who have been charged till now include a variety of people belonging to different professions and sections of the society including teacher; aspiring dancer; estate agent; student; hair dresser; postman; lifeguard etc to name just a few meaning by that one cannot finger on any one profession or class of people or even on gender which in turn paints very gloomy situation and it demands that the people both individually and collectively must think about to improve upon their moral standards. Needless to mention, all those who have been hauled up are just a very few only and they can very easily be corrected and put back in the main civilized stream of the society which is neither impossible nor difficult but at the same time it does call upon the parents; elders; social reformers and preachers to come forward and play their active and positive role to clean up the society. I am very much optimistic that whatever is dented is not going to be repeated in future and my prayers are with you and you only.
