The Dilemma of the City of Lights

History tells us that disintegration in societies has often led to deterioration of peace. Many flourishing economies, serene places, united communities and peaceful cities have lost their tranquility because of riots which occur on the basis of race, ethnicity and religion. Same is the case with Karachi-the economic capital of Pakistan.

Every other day, we hear about the disarray in Karachi-Once known as The City of Lights or Roshniyoo ka shehar. Besides, one does not know whether one will return home safely after doing the day’s work. You may get out of a bank after receiving your salary and the next moment, two guys arrive on a motorbike and demand that you hand over to them, whatever you have!!! If you resist or try to start a brawl, your family soon mourns your tragic death.

There are numerous reasons for the current situation of our “economic Capital.” Karachi is home to citizens from different areas of Pakistan who have different cultures and traditions. Some deadliest foes of our country have succeeded in making them quarrel against each other. Poverty is another reason for the high crime rate. Most importantly, the government seems contented with the situation: all is fine from our president’s point of view.

Nevertheless, whatever the reasons of this dilemma, its time for us to realize that we are not Pathans or Muhajirs or Punjabis. We are Pakistanis and Pakistan is our identity. It is time for us to follow the principles of unity and discipline of our great Quaid. The youth is the majority of the population and it should actively engage in creating awareness among the misguided and illiterate. We should remember that

United we Stand, Divided we Fall.
