Pakistan: What will happen after Sharif's disqualification?

By Nadia Khan

Since then the governor rule is imposed in Punjab and Shahbaz Sharif is dismissed from the chief minister post, it is evident that President Zardari became successful in saying to his party men two weeks before that, lets see how I will handle lawyers & their long march sit in .

Partially, the lawyers long march will be impacted as Nawaz league will not be able to use all provincial govt resources without a doubt, only favour of a provincial govt makes big difference and their focus is shifted towards Punjab chief minister ship, collation of provincial assembly members, avoidance of horse trading, and countering the activities of Salman Taseer, now the chief executive of Punjab for next two months. Up till 12th March 2009, President Zardari is successful however in coming months he has to handle his own prime minister, who wasnt consulted in imposing governor rule per sec 234, as there were reports circulated in Islamabad that Yousuf Raza Gilani has resigned. I wish Pakistani political leaders should have that much courage for the sake of right choices for this country!!!!

In coming months, President Zardari, who is presiding PPP Punjab rep meetings in President House, has come down from the highest level of a neutral Head of State to a mere political party biased head and deteriorated the countrys settled political environment for many months.

o       Lawyers will get agitated, most probably President Zardari will prolong Dogar tenure by giving him 2 years extension

o       PML (N) will work out to gain street power, in a bit politico-power show, keeping the target of mid term elections by knowing that ANP, JI, PTI, nationalist forces from Baluchistan and representatives of FATA/tribal areas had raised their concerns against it including all time-government ally Fazulr Rahman

o       Q league, which lost its hope & number of seats in 18th Feb 07 elections, came to limelight again, will strike the hardest-ever deal with President Zardari, knowing the fact of killer (Qatil) league title by same fellow, shall enforce Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain as Chairman Senate and Munis Illahi, Pervaiz Illahis son, as Chief Minister of Punjab. Would this be acceptable to all PPP stalwarts, it is a big question!

This will lead Pakistan back to a bigger political turmoil a situation where a weak PPP central government and weakest Q league Punjab government like Raisanis govt in Baluchistan, will allow terrorist group to resurface and challenge the writ as and when needed easily. Indian influence in Baluchistan, FATA and tribal areas along with port-city of Karachi, will lead MQM to present themselves as a big bargainers for larger demands!
