Just 20 killed in a day in Karachi

Yesterday, Saturday 10th November, 2012 was the day when neither 19 nor even 21 but just 20 people were killed in Karachi as I have read in Nation & Dawn.

Should it be construed that it was a free killing day in the old capital of the country whereby anyone anywhere and anytime could anyone? How could it happen in this particular city which is none but capital city of the province? Shouldn’t Karachi very rightly boat of having all sorts of police namely elite, smart and commando? Is it not true that there were intelligence men also on duty in the city though very much in plain clothes? Had the security arrangements in the city not been truly augmented since the rangers too had been deployed in the city? Will it be wrong to say that the police and other law enforcing agencies of the city are nicely laced and equipped with modern gadgets?

Didn’t Governor, Chief Minister and Inspector General of Police of Sindh province say time and again that the human lives and their properties of all those people irrespective of their mother languages and living in Karachi are fully protected? What about the perpetual tall claims of Interior Minister of Pakistan Malik Rehman who time and again flies all the way from Islamabad to Karachi costing hell of money on account of TA & DA saying that none should be alarmed and worried about law and order situation in Karachi because he is here to ensure peace? Didn’t we see that the incumbent Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf also has announced that Karachites should not anymore be scared because now he no more minister but elevated as Prime Minister? Had not just last week none but the top most VIP called President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari chaired high level meeting in Karachi in connection with safety and security?

Honestly speaking overall law and order situation is too bad in the country in general and Karachi in particular for quite many years if not decades but very much regretfully the situation is becoming worst though it should be other way round. The people are being killed on daily basis without any gap or lull in between with the difference that may be one day more are killed and the very next day there are less killings but still there is killing. The funniest part of the sad episode is that the killers are not being caught up in bulk majority of cases hence with the passage of the time; the killing is very much becoming more frequent, intense and rampant. The deterrence of punishment has lost its awe and fear which is the worst part of it to be honest. People living in the Karachi feel very much scared of their lives because none on the face of earth knows when someone can be killed by someone at anytime and at anyplace for no reason and rhyme whatsoever.

Gone are the days, when in my beloved country which I left temporarily in 1976, people were killed for any specific reason and or cause but very much sadly for quite many years the situation has absolutely and very much dramatically changed and a result thereof, each and every day we read in newspapers and see on television screens that people are being killed at will. People of all ages are being targeted and therefore the life of the children and our youth or for that matter even of senior citizens like me is at equal risk meaning by that in the old golden years I had heard and seen that the children were loved and kissed or older were honored and respected which is no more applicable so far as Pakistan is concerned. Who does not know that the weaker gender demands sympathy and it had been practiced alike for centuries but alas now it can be read in the pages of the history books of Pakistan libraries only for the very cogent reason that now instead of being spared in sympathy, she is also very much killed all along with men. Clergymen were taken into high esteem and therefore it was not even thought what to talk of practice that they be targeted but now it is other way round and very often we have come to know that even our prayer leaders are also not spared but killed. Once upon a time the lives of all those who had big purse either in form of cash or property were at risk to some extent but it is not so anymore for the obvious reason that for quite many years even the poor daily wage earning workers too are being attacked and killed.

What could be the optimum number to be achieved daily so far as killing of human being is concerned in Karachi is my very naïve question to be honest to Allah? One may at least raise eye brows, if not hands, on reading my question and let me give an explanation to those who are not with me but against. My humble submission is that one day 3 are killed another day 9 lose their lives and a day later fatalities reduce to 6 but the very next day the figure jumps to 15 people who leave this world and transfer to their permanent bode so since the figures are not common and invariably change each day and there is no gap in between too in any case hence I will suggest that there must an optimum figure to be killed each day so that under no circumstances neither less nor more are killed each day.  This will save my time as well to read and write. When will we bring back the peace in Karachi which once used to be the face of the country? Which government namely the popularly publicly elected or the one in khaki, will restore peace and tranquility in the metropolitan city?

Had sky fallen apart if yesterday not 20 but 24 were killed which can easily be remembered as 2 dozens or had oceans dried up if they had killed 18 equaling to one and half dozen whereas the figure if 20 doesn’t fit in so far as scale of dozen is concerned? When PPP which is still few more months in power can give us the best of the best news that enough is enough and not a single will be killed from so and so date, aameen. I salute PPP in advance on turning the biggest revenue earning city of Pakistan which is named as Karachi as killing free city.
