Hajj in Pakistan by Col. Riaz Jafri (Retd)

Once again the Ruet e Hilal Committee has announced that our Eid ul Azha will fall on Saturday 27 October 2012, that is one day after it would be observed at Makkah. This means that our Hajj will occur on Friday 26th October 2012, whereas the ACTUAL Hajj at Mecca will be performed on Thursday the 25th of October 2012 ! The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the membership of 154 parliamentarians and members of provincial assemblies, including Interior Minister Rehman Malik and a few more powerful law makers, for failing to submit details of their assets by the due date. Horrendous is too mild a word for the slaughter of SP Khurshid Khan Alizai and then carrying away of his head by the 300 strong terrorists who attacked Matni police post near Peshawar as reported in the papers. Election Commission of Pakistan has suspended the membership of as many as 154 lawmakers as they still did not submit details of their assets and liabilities.To me this is not just an ordinary news as one may think of rather it is very much mind boggling to know that none but our lawmakers themselves do not respect our law. Not a day passes when a dozen or so innocent people are not killed in Karachi, mostly on account of preplanned target killing. Though the law enforcing agencies are blamed for their incompetency to control the crime yet, I think it is just beyond them.
